Dr. Dumont is a graduate of the University Of Minnesota College Of Dentistry. He served in the US Public Health Service for 6 years, first working in Alaska with the Coast Guard and the Native peoples, followed by a tour of duty in Arizona treating members of the Navaho, Hopi, Zuni and Apache tribes. After being accepted and completing a USPHS General Practice Residency, he was invited to stay and teach in the Residency and Intern Program and also at the University of Maryland Dental School. Following those assignments, he decided to enter private practice. Dr. Dumont came to Ashland, OR at the urging of his dear friend and colleague in the USPHS, Dr. James Benson. Shortly, thereafter they formed a partnership and built the present dental facility.
Dr. Dumont’s primary endeavor from the beginning has been to understand, diagnose and precisely treat the form and function of the human dental system. A great deal of continuing education led to the reality that study of the most outstanding, mature, natural dental systems held the answers to the best health giving dental therapy. Dr. Dumont has been gathering optimal dental health data from his patient population for 20 years. The characteristics found in that population have served as a model to successfully treat patients with all types of form and functional problems. The reality is that the dental system is intricately connected to and works with the entire head, neck and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) complex. Therefore, treatment of the teeth influences the body at many levels. It’s a significant interface where beauty (form) and function meet.
Dr Dumont is a Fellow in the International and the American Colleges of Dentistry. He holds memberships in the International Academy of Gnathology, The Academy of General Dentistry, The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, The American Equilibration Society and The Academy of Bioesthetic Dentistry. He is currently on the teaching faculty for the OBI Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry and has lectured and written on the subject extensively (see CV).
Dr. Dumont has also been active in the local, state and national dental associations serving as President of the Oregon Dental Association in 1985-86.
After graduation from the University Of Illinois College Of Dentistry and election to membership in Omicron Kappa Upsilon, Dr. Benson completed a dental internship with the US Public Health Service (USPHS) in Seattle, Washington. Two years later he became the Deputy Chief of Intern Training at the USPHS Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia.
Dr. Benson and his wife, Denise and their three children next discovered the magic of Ashland, Oregon; and he entered private dental practice. He has been an active participant of the Southern Oregon community serving as President of the Southern Oregon Dental Society, President of the Ashland Kiwanis Club, President of the Southern Oregon University Raider Athletic Association, and a board member of the S.O.U. Foundation.
